Hello,
I'm so excited to be entering my 9th year teaching at Langston Charter! I consider it a pleasure to share my love
of history with my students and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year.
I earned my undergraduate degree in history from Kennesaw State University and my Masters of Education in
Teaching from Clemson University. I've had a varied history of job experience prior to becoming a teacher. I
worked as a South Carolina state park ranger, a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America, a temporary
member of an archaeological excavation team in East Tennessee and finally a personal fitness trainer.
My wife and I are also members of Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church and active there.
My wife and I moved to the Simpsonville area in 1999 from the East Tennessee area, though I'm originally from
Georgia. We have two sons who are 21 and 24 years old. Our youngest son, Perry lives in the Greenville area
and has been studying multi-media production and plays drums in a local band. Our oldest son, Sean is a
mechanical engineer and lives north of Atlanta, Georgia with his wife. My wife Nicky writes business articles and
creates Word Press websites.
We don't have any fury pets, but we often pet sit for our friends and family. Sometimes I mention our son
and daughter in law's young cats, Mango and Gorbachev (a Russian Blue) or Ben the dog, who we originally
took in as a foster pet. Last school year, I decided to get two leopard geckos as class pets. We named them
Cleo (Cleopatra) and Little Caesar. We now think that Little Caesar is a girl, so we decided to call her Cee Cee.
Cleo is the oldest gecko (a little over a year old) and Cee Cee is about 7 months old and is easy to identify
because she looks like a cheetah with her brown and yellow colors and spots.
I grew up in the Atlanta, Georgia area, though I was born in Beaumont Texas. Being from Georgia, I am a
Georgia Bulldog fan and always look forward to football season when I get to watch my Dawgs play! Of course I
have to support my Clemson Tigers since I am an Clemson alumnus, as long as they aren't playing my
Dawgs. I've also been an Atlanta Braves fan since I was 8 years old and remember watching Hank Aaron play
when he was trying to hit his 715th homerun to pass Babe Ruth as the homerun leader of all time. Ironically,
after years of hoping that the Braves would win the World Series, they finally became world champions in 1995,
but I didn't get to watch the final game because it also happened to be my wedding day.
Two years ago the Braves won the World Series title again, but his time I saw the entire series! Hopefully they
will make there again this year.
Wow, now you know probably more about me than you wanted to know. Please let me know if I can help
your child with anything they may be struggling with in my class. Your child's success in my class is my first
priority at Langston Charter Middle!
